Snorkeling Tips
Are you looking for a few snorkeling tips before you head out? Well look no further. We have assessed common trouble areas for beginning snorkelers and compiled a few tips to help you get started. One of the most common issues for beginners is problems entering the water. I know it sounds silly, after all it can’t be that hard to simply jump in the water, right?
Sure, but when you have a mask and tube that shouldn’t be submersed, it can complicate the seemingly easy task of getting in. Getting water into your air tube is not enjoyable, especially when you’re first trying to get oriented. When you are entering the water from a beach, it is helpful to walk backwards with your fins on until the water is about chest deep. Once at that depth, a good snorkeling tip is to adjust your mask and breathing tube, and then turn around and start swimming.
Sometimes though, you’ll be entering the water from a pier or a boat, and walking out won’t be an option. In this case you will need to have all your equipment adjusted before entering the water and perform what is called a giant stride entry. It works just like it sounds. You take a big step off the edge of the pier or boat, and enter the water with your legs apart. Bringing your legs together after you are in the water will allow your fins to counter the downward momentum you accumulated while falling. Another good snorkeling tip is to have a hand on your mask and breathing tube to prevent them from slipping while performing this entry.
